Mercy Haven needs help with renovations

The centre needs funds or building supplies to do the restorations.

Mercy Haven desperately needs the community’s assistance with restorations on the property.

According to the centre manager, Maria Pereira, they can no longer postpone the restoration, which includes repairing the roof and walls and painting.

“It is urgent that we do these repairs, especially in the first house. The walls are damp and the roof is leaking, which is a huge problem when it is raining. This is unhygienic, and we want to get everything done as soon as possible.

Pereira said at the moment they are not taking in as many women because of the pending renovations.
They will appreciate any monetary donation, as well as building supplies.

“It will help a lot if a business can sponsor material that can help with the restorations,” she pointed out.

Mercy Haven is also looking for volunteers to assist in enhancing the skills of its clients, such as computer literacy. If you are interested, email admin@mercyhavenubuntu.co.za

Building
The property of Mercy Haven holds historical value and renovations will be done within the by-laws.

It was built in 1907 and purchased by the Franciscans in 1987 to be used as a rehabilitation centre for drug and alcohol dependents.

The House of Mercy was blessed by Rt Rev Reginald Orsmond, the Bishop of Johannesburg and officially opened by Dr Sylvain de Miranda оп May 25, 1990.
