Marinus Weiss, a seasoned golfer and Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (Scotland) certified rules official has been appointed manager at ERPM Golf Club.
Weiss, who assumed his duties on March 4, has been involved in golf for decades.
He explained that he started playing golf in 1984 after his brother-in-law introduced him to the sport.
To further this, Weiss became involved in golf administration in 1999 and then became the general manager at Plettenberg Bay Country Club in 2001.
He later moved to Johannesburg where he managed amateur golf and served as a director of golf at the Central Gauteng Golf Union for about seven years.
Weiss was also general manager at the Port Elizabeth Golf Club from 2012 to 2017.
Among the new leader’s objectives is to recruit new members locally and abroad, propel ERPM Golf Club to the top three clubs in Ekurhuleni and get the course back to the Top 100 ranking of the country’s 487 golf courses.
“I want to make Boksburg proud of its own golf course,” he said.
When asked why golf, Weiss responded, “I love working with professionals. As a manager, there are a lot of challenges, however, I believe in teamwork.”
He pointed out that the ERPM golf course is part of the Sunshine Tour circuit.
“Our club is inclusive to everyone regardless of age, race and sex. I urge juniors to join,” Weiss said.
The golf club is involved in community upliftment through the sharing of their cleaning equipment, affordable specials for the elderly and tutoring children in the sport.
