Long-serving St Francis nurse retires
The senior nurse was described as committed and reliable.
Casbeth Mangqobe, a senior professional nurse at the St Francis Care Centre, recently retired at the age of 86 after serving the centre for 21 years.
Tilly Brouwer, centre manager, said that Mangqobe was a committed and reliable employee.
“The patients at the centre loved her. We will miss her cheerful nature and guidance to the care helpers,” said Brouwer.
Bouwer said it was a difficult time when Mangqobe started working at the centre.
“There was no medication available in our country for HIV/AIDS patients.
“Patients arrived at the centre in a very weak condition and most of them died.
“All we could do was nurse them with compassion and love so that they could die peacefully.
“Today, of course, things have changed and medication is available,” said Brouwer.
Brouwer said their focus is now on rendering palliative care services to persons suffering from any life-limiting or life-threatening disease.
The centre manager wished Mangqobe a well earned rest and happy retirement.
St Francis Care Centre is a registered NPO catering to dozens of vulnerable children and adults, most of them suffering from threatening and/or life-limiting conditions.
The organisation is always in need of necessities like cleaning products, groceries and clothing.
