Women struggling to pick up the pieces after road rage incident
Sheree had minor injuries to her legs and Chanelle broke her left arm in the incident.
The couple from Boksburg South knocked off their scooter in a road rage incident on April 30 is still struggling to cope emotionally.
Sheree Buitendach (33) and her wife Chanelle (29) were on their way home when the incident happened on the corner of North Rand and Herman Pieters roads at about 18:20.
Sheree said a man driving a red Hyundai Atos knocked them off their red and white scooter because she hooted at him for skipping a traffic light.
They were travelling together because Sheree picked Chantelle up after her shift at work. The women are both surveillance officers.
Sheree had minor injuries to her legs and Chanelle broke her left arm. Chanelle underwent an operation on May 3 and will go back to the hospital on July 2 for a check-up.
She said although they are healing physically, they are left with emotional scars.
“I don’t know if we will recover from the trauma. My wife is scared to be on the road, and lately, I have a flaring temper that is worse than ever. I also get out of my mind when a red car comes close to me,” she said.
Sheree said they will feel better once the person is brought to book.
Background
Sheree previously told the Boksburg Advertiser the driver of the Atos skipped a red light.
“I hooted at the driver of the Atos for not adhering to the traffic rules. I then saw the Atos make a U-turn. He came back speeding towards us, but I managed to swerve and get out of his way.
“We were now in the middle of the road. He then stopped in front of our scooter and blocked us,” she said.
Sheree said the man then started swearing at them.
“As I pushed the bike backwards, it looked like he was going to drive off. He then reversed into us at high speed, and we were knocked off the scooter.”
Sheree believes the driver is in his mid to late 40’s.
“He was short and baldish with a bit of grey hair.”
The scooter is a write-off due to the damage and the matter was reported to the police.
Sheree said they hadn’t got any feedback regarding the investigation.
The Boksburg Advertiser has not received comment from the police by the time of publication.
