Boksburg Cardinals U15 team to go to America
The team is excited about the opportunity to go to America.
The sky is the limit for the Boksburg Cardinals’ U15A baseball team, which will have the opportunity to jet off to America next year for a baseball tournament and training camp.
This comes after the team won the league and the cup last season.
The tour represents a significant opportunity for the team to showcase their skills, gain valuable experience, and proudly represent their club.
The Boksburg Advertiser spoke to two of the Cardinals’ U15 players during the club’s recent open day.
Ethan Foley (13) joined the club eight years ago and has made the Gauteng team every year since. Foley also represented South Africa at the World Cup in Columbia.
The gifted baseball player expressed that it’s a major achievement for the team to be able to travel to the States.
“I’m excited about the upcoming season. Our preparation is going well, and we are training hard,” said Foley.
Foley said he would like to play in the big league in the future.
Another player, Caylum de Wet (14), expressed excitement about the next season. “Our team is strong, and we win a lot.”

De Wet mentioned that his favourite aspect of baseball is having fun with his friends.
However, the club needs funds to make the team’s American dream a reality and will hold a golf day fundraiser at ERPM Golf Club on October 31.
Gavin Watkins, club president, said the Cardinals is proud of the U15A side for getting the opportunity to go to America.
“The Cardinals are focused on growing baseball in Boksburg. We are especially interested in growing from U8s and developing their skills and potential. There is a great opportunity in baseball. Three of our U15 players were chosen to represent South Africa in the recent U15 World Cup in Columbia.
“Two of our coaches were also selected for the South African Senior Women’s and U18 Women’s baseball teams. They competed and dominated against Zimbabwe at the end of August and will be facing off against one another again in Zimbabwe this December.
“This is a great sport to be a part of, not only as a player but as a family,” said Watkins.
