WATCH OUT! Dangerous pothole ahead
Potholes should be reported to the city's call centre: 0860 543 000.
A massive pothole opened up on the stretch of Commissioner Road near the Boksburg Police Station, posing a serious hazard to motorists, particularly those unfamiliar with the area.
The Boksburg Advertiser spotted the road defect during the wet weather on November 12, when many motorists were seen slowing down and swerving suddenly to avoid hitting the hole.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution when approaching the hazard hiding in a pool of water. Upon first glance, it looks like a puddle.
It’s unclear whether the pothole had been reported to the metro. The metro has not yet responded to our request for comment.
Claim
What motorists may not know is that they can claim for pothole damage to their vehicles from the authorities responsible for the stretch of road.

However, according to the metro, the onus of proof lies with the claimant that the relevant authority was aware of the pothole and failed to take reasonable precautions to mitigate the risk caused by the pothole within a reasonable period.
The motorist needs to provide the exact location where the accident or damage occurred, as well as a picture of the damaged car, the pothole and a wide shot of the road and surrounding area.
