Burglars target Urban Ruins – 12 times

Donations of equipment or funds can be directed through Viljoen on 081 747 0833.

Urban Ruins, an NPO committed to uplifting communities through sustainable initiatives, is grappling with the aftermath of multiple burglaries during December 26, 2024 to January 3.

CEO Clayton Viljoen said they experienced 10 burglaries and two attempted burglaries in this time.

“The thieves made off with critical equipment essential for operations, including items worth R15 000.

Additional costs of R9 000 have been incurred and R3 000 worth of mushroom crops were also lost.

“This has severely disrupted our day-to-day operations and delayed progress on several community projects.

“Much of what was stolen is vital for maintaining our grounds, powering our facilities and supporting our mushroom farming initiative,” said Viljoen.

Urban Ruins is launching an urgent appeal for donations to replace stolen equipment and bolster security measures from the community, local businesses and philanthropists.
