Malaysia, a female kitten of about six months who miraculously survived being transported in a container from Malaysia to Jet Park, is regaining her strength at the Boksburg SPCA.
SPCA inspector Ralph Chivaviro said the society received a call from a company in Jet Park at about noon on January 22 about a cat found in a container.
“We removed the load inside the container and found the kitten, who was severely dehydrated and malnourished. The container had come from Malaysia and been at sea for 40 days.”
The inspector described it as a miracle that the animal, dubbed Malaysia by the SPCA, survived the ordeal.

“We don’t know how she managed to stay alive. She is recovering well. We’re building her strength, and she even ‘talks’ to us now.”
Vicky Finnemore, the manager of the SPCA, said they believe the kitten accidentally got into the container before it was shipped to SA.
Malaysia will be up for adoption as soon as she has recovered.
The society relies on public support to continue helping furry friends in need. Anyone who can help can call 011 916 5906/7, 067 409 4267 or 083 763 6311.
