Child Welfare desperate for premises for their charity shop

Boksburg Child Welfare has not had any response from business owners or estate agents in its desperate search for a premises for their charity shop.

Chairperson Dorry Naidoo explained that the previous charity shop operated from a premises on the corner of Trichardts and Cason roads but hasn’t been in business since 2015 when the landlord renovated and let the premises out without consulting with Child Welfare.

Naidoo said the shop would do well in a location near the CBD, where there is plenty of activity and easy access for the public.

“There is still strong demand for second-hand goods in areas like Boksburg North,” he said.

The organisation would need a reasonable fixed rental from the landlord for the lease period and would require the landlord to be mindful of their operational costs, especially considering the current economic climate.
Boksburg Child Welfare accepts all donations from the public for resale on an ad-hoc basis at the moment and will continue to do so once they are able to secure a permanent charity shop.

“All donations are sorted and used at our branches and outreach projects. We can also arrange collection,” Naidoo said.

“We haven’t had a premises for the shop for such a long time. A charity shop is vital in helping cover our operational and administrative costs, which are not subsidised by the Department of Social Development.”

He added that they are also always in need of volunteers, especially should the charity shop reopen.

Boksburg Child Welfare is located next to the town hall at the corner of Trichardts Road and Commissioner Street in the CBD.

Naidoo urged the community to become more involved and support organisations like child welfare that are dedicated to making a difference in society.
