Malaysia the container kitty making good progress
The tenacious feline will be up for adoption once she is fully recovered.
Malaysia, the female kitten of about six months who miraculously survived being transported in a container from Malaysia to Jet Park, is making good progress in her recovery at the Boksburg SPCA.
The kitten was rescued by the SPCA on January 22 after a company in Jet Park informed the society about the animal inside the container.
The container had come from Malaysia and had been at sea for 40 days. She was severely dehydrated and malnourished when rescued.
At the time, inspector Ralph Chivaviro described it as a miracle that the animal, dubbed Malaysia by the SPCA, survived the ordeal.
SPCA secretary Sue Beadon said they are happy to report the kitten has been doing well.

“She’s interacting more and more with our staff and gets to spend a lot of cuddle time with her favourite ‘hooman’, inspector Ralph (her rescuer). She doesn’t like to be picked up but enjoys sitting on your lap and is quite the ‘talker.’

Malaysia is still uncertain of loud noises and quick movements. She has been spending time in our exercise pen, getting much-needed Vitamin D, and enjoying the sunshine.
“She still likes to find her safe space in corners and loves the cat tree ‘hidey hole.’ Her favourite pastime is to watch the insects and activities in our cattery,” she said.
Beadon expressed her gratitude for all the support and well-wishes they have been receiving.
“With the kind donations from the community, Malaysia is on a high-quality kitten food diet. She has put on weight and has been climbing the cat tree, which is great progress in building her leg muscles after being cramped in the container,” she said.
Malaysia will be up for adoption once she is fully recovered.
The society relies on public support to continue helping furry friends in need. Anyone who can help can call 067 409 4267.
