‘Cops’ hijack vehicle, kidnap two men

This happened a day before six EMPD members from the drug unit were arrested on charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, extortion and obstructing the course of justice.

The driver of a Toyota Quantum was hijacked by three men and a woman in traffic police uniforms on March 4.

According to police reports, the victim, who was with his friend, was driving along Commissioner Street next to Unilever in Boksburg when the incident unfolded.
He noticed a white Ford Ranger bakkie, fitted with blue lights, signalling him to pull over.

After pulling over, a female ‘officer’ got out of the Ford Ranger and asked to see the driver’s licence.
She removed the kombi’s licence disc, claiming there was something wrong with it, then told the driver to follow her to the Ford Ranger, where one of the three men in police uniform pointed a gun at the victim and instructed him to get into their vehicle.

He complied while one of the bogus officers got into the Quantum, with the friend of the driver still inside, and drove off.
Both vehicles were driven to a veld next to Curro-Parkdene, where a Renault Clio was parked.
The two victims, tied with cable ties, were forced into the boot of the Clio and driven around for about two hours before being released next to the road in Leachville.

They managed to untie themselves and went to Boksburg SAPS to report the crime.
Police have registered a case of hijacking and kidnapping.
