DON’T PANIC: DEMS is carrying out a 24-hour structural rescue exercise
No need to be alarmed - rescue teams are simply doing a structural rescue training drill at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station.
The CoE’s DEMS is doing a 24-hour practical structural collapse assessment for student firefighters at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station on May 7.
The assessment will begin with an online theoretical exam at 09:00. Once the examination is complete, students will do the 24-hour practical component.
According to DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi, the scenario for the practical assessment will simulate an earthquake.
“The students will be required to enter the structure to rescue survivors and recover ‘bodies’,” he explained.
