Exemptions, rebates deadline looms – property owners must reapply now

To qualify for the rebate, applicants must complete and submit application forms.

Property owners in the City of Ekurhuleni who qualify for rates exemption or rebates are advised to apply, as these expire with the current valuation roll at the end of June.

In terms of the city’s Property Rates Policy, the exemptions and rebates lapse when the validity period of the valuation roll expires. Therefore, even those who currently qualify will be required to reapply.

Who qualifies?

The following categories of property owners qualify for exemptions, rebates, or reductions in rates:

• Pensioners: Eligible for a reduction or rebate on property rates

• Indigent and deemed indigent individuals, based on property value

• Disability: Individuals with disabilities or those medically boarded may qualify for grants

• Sporting bodies that facilitate amateur sport

• Welfare and humanitarian institutions, animal welfare organisations, and cultural institutions

• Public and private schools, universities and colleges, and creches registered as educational institutions

• Vacant unimproved properties: Rebates for vacant land

• Properties damaged by a natural disaster, as defined by the Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002, may qualify.

To qualify for the rebate, applicants must complete and submit application forms, which are available at their relevant finance department offices:
