Passerby finds foetus in CBD

A foetus was found dumped on the side of the road in the Boksburg CBD on July 9.

Boksburg police confirmed that they responded to reports of a foetus left on the roadside, on the corner of Leeuwpoort and Joubert streets, at about 15:00. The circumstances around the incident remain unclear at this stage.

“The identity and the cause of death are still unknown, and we believe that the foetus was four months old after conception,” said Boksburg SAPS spokesperson

“It has also not been confirmed whether the foetus was a boy or a girl,” she added.

The emergency services teams, including the police and forensic personnel, arrived on the scene.

The foetus was taken to a state mortuary for further investigations. No one has been arrested.
A passerby, John Molefe, who spoke to the Boksburg Advertiser, said he spotted the foetus and alerted the police.
“I was walking down the street like I do every day. Nothing felt out of place until I noticed a few people gathered near the sidewalk.

“At first, I thought someone had left a doll behind, but as I got closer, I realised it was a baby. It was tiny. It couldn’t have been more than a few weeks old.
“I couldn’t move. I just stood there. I kept hoping my eyes were playing tricks on me. Even now, I keep seeing that image.

“You always hear these kinds of stories in the news somewhere far away, but to find something like this right in front of you, in your neighbourhood, is scary,” he said, adding that he’s lived in Boksburg for years and never seen anything so heartbreaking.

“We’ve had break-ins, stolen cars and petty theft, but this? It’s evil. It’s just pure evil.”
