The 11-year-old Boksburg girl who was raped on separate occasions and impregnated, allegedly by a man they deemed a trusted family friend, is doing better now and has returned to school.
The girl was reportedly raped while visiting the family friends’ household when she was six, and she went through the same ordeal in December last year, just a few months after she turned 11.
A spokesperson for the family, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, said the girl does not like to speak about what happened, but she has returned to school.
“She’s also taking part in the extramural activities she used to enjoy. She’s doing well in school.”
The spokesperson confirmed that the child’s pregnancy was terminated at five months.
“She’s still a child herself; she couldn’t carry a baby. The termination has been emotionally difficult for her, and she is receiving counselling.”
The family spokesperson said the girl’s parents are coping, although they remain anxious about the outcome of the case.
The 29-year-old man, whose bail application was denied on June 13, returned to court on August 7, where the matter was postponed to September 12.
