St Dominic’s majorettes dominate SAMCA Nationals

The school congratulates the majorettes on their achievements.

The St Dominic’s majorette team has once again showcased their dominance on the national stage, recently securing top honours in both the primary and senior school divisions at the 2025 SAMCA (South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association) National Championships.

Held in Oudtshoorn this year, the prestigious event brought together elite teams from across the country. The Saints proved unstoppable, emerging as overall champions in the elite league, triumphing over fierce competition from all provinces.

The senior team was led by Grade 12 learner and head of service at St Dominic’s, Elizabeth Chimedza, while the primary school squad was captained by Grade Seven learners Gianna Bussack and Aphiwe Ngcobo. Behind their success is a team of dedicated coaches: Alisha Venter, Matthew Higgs, Natalie Brink, Zoe Pretorius, and Rabi Mobeng.

The St Dominic’s majorette programme comprises 85 talented athletes – 32 from the primary school (from as young as Grade 1) and 53 from the senior school (Grades 8 to 12). Their remarkable achievements reflect the team’s unwavering commitment, countless hours of training, and a shared passion for the sport.

SAMCA, the official SASCOC-recognised governing body for majorettes and cheerleading in South Africa, provides a platform for excellence, where schools from all nine provinces compete at the highest level. St Dominic’s participation and victories in the elite league reaffirm the school’s reputation for excellence in the sport.

Looking ahead, the SAMCA Nationals will return to Gauteng in 2026 – the first time since 2017 that the province will host the event. St Dominic’s will no doubt be aiming to defend their titles and extend their legacy as national champions.
