St Dom’s netball star shines at All Ages Tournament
The netball star is aiming high after a standout performance at the SA Schools Netball All Ages Tournament.
St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls netball standout Michaela Thethe is making waves both for her skill on the court and the life lessons she has learned through the sport she loves.
Michaela, who plays in the versatile positions of centre and goal attack, recently represented the U14 Lambda team at the South African Schools Netball All Ages Tournament, hosted at Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen. She says netball has been one of the best things to ever happen to her.
“What I love most about netball is how it teaches us to come together as a team,” she said. “You can love each other no matter how different you are, and no matter what level you play at.”
More than just a game
For Michaela, netball is more than competition. It is a platform for personal growth and connection.
“It teaches you so much in life and really helps you grow as a person,” she added.
That personal growth has come with accolades too. Michaela has been selected for the Gauteng team two years in a row, an achievement that reflects her dedication and talent.
But it is not just the medals and milestones she values most. Michaela says some of her most cherished memories have come from the friendships she has formed on the court.
Reflecting on her experience at the recent All Ages Tournament, she said it was not about results.
“I really had fun, no matter what position our team came in,” she said. “We learnt a lot, and it was an enjoyable experience. We grew so much as a team. The more we played together, the more we began to understand each other.”
Looking ahead
With passion and confidence, Michaela is already looking forward to next season.
“Next year we’re coming with a bang. With new coaches and players, we’ve got this in the bag,” she said with a smile.
Her biggest goal is to one day wear the green and gold of the national team.
“I want to say that I’ve played for South Africa. That’s my biggest dream in netball,” she said.
