Metro grappling with waste removal backlog in Boksburg

The city apologises for the inconvenience this has caused.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s waste management department is still grappling with the backlog of refuse removal in some parts of Boksburg, and urges residents to dispose of their uncollected rubbish responsibly.

Affected residents can makes use of the nearby mini dumpsites or landfills, as opposed to illegal dumping.
Recent inconsistent garbage removal has seen rubbish piling up on the streets in Sunward Park, Windmill Park, Holomisa, Phumula, Mapleton and Vosloorus.

“The city is prioritising removal of excess waste caused by the backlog at mini dump sites in Boksburg and Vosloorus. While the waste removal backlog is being attended to, the mini dump sites are open throughout the week, including on weekends to accept waste,” explained metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini.

Dlamini pointed out that only domestic waste and garden waste are accepted for disposal, and no building rubble is allowed at these facilities.
“Alternatively, customers in Boksburg and Vosloorus can use the nearby Rooikraal landfill site in Dawn Park. General waste weighing less than a ton (1000kg) can be disposed free of charge for the members of the public.

“The city calls for patience from all customers affected by the waste removal backlog in Boksburg and surrounding areas, while efforts are underway to speedily remedy the waste removal backlog in the abovementioned areas. The city apologises for the inconvenience this has caused.”
