Boksburg Child Welfare’s appeal for charity shop premises remains unanswered

The organisation hasn't had a charity shop since 2015.

After many years of trying to secure suitable premises for a charity shop, Boksburg Child Welfare is now considering using a room at its Boksburg branch office.

The charity shop premises, on the corner of Trichardts and Cason roads, has been vacant since 2015 when the landlord renovated and leased the space without consulting Boksburg Child Welfare.

Despite an appeal in Boksburg Advertiser and other efforts, chairperson Dorry Naidoo said they haven’t had a response from the public or businesses.

The organisation was looking for a reasonable fixed rental from any prospective landlord for the duration of the lease.

“Since we are struggling to find a premises, we are looking into using a room at the Boksburg office for the charity shop.

“We will need a volunteer to manage the shop. The role involves helping with the receiving and selling of items, and promoting the shop to the community,” said Naidoo.

He reiterated that the charity shop is vital in helping the organisation cover its operational costs.

Boksburg Child Welfare currently accepts all donations from the public for resale on an ad hoc basis and will continue to do so until a permanent charity shop can be secured.
“We still run jumble sales once a month at our Boksburg, Reiger Park and Vosloorus branches as we have stock.”

The chairperson appealed to the community to support the organisation by donating items for resale. Any second-hand items in good condition would be appreciated.
BCW is located next to the town hall at the corner of Trichardts Road and Commissioner Street in the CBD.

Naidoo urged the community to get involved and support organisations like Child Welfare that are dedicated to making a difference in society.
