Hijacking of company vehicles: Jet Park, Anderbolt among hotspots warn police

Community members are urged to remain vigilant at all times.

Boksburg North SAPS warns of rising hijackings and criminal activity

Boksburg North SAPS has issued a warning following an increase in hijackings, particularly of company vehicles and trucks.

According to station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, around five hijackings are reported weekly, with incidents commonly occurring between 08:00 and 15:00. High-risk areas include Jet Park, Anderbolt and sections of the N12 and R21 freeways.

Mngomezulu described the suspects’ modus operandi. “They sandwich the vehicle from the front and back, forcing the motorist to stop. Once stationary, victims are forcibly removed and transferred to another vehicle. They are typically dropped off in areas such as Brakpan or Soweto.”

In response, SAPS has increased visibility and patrols in hotspot zones. The public is urged to remain vigilant, keep doors locked and ensure valuables are hidden from view.

Private security warns of rising crime trends
Legendary Guardians Exclusive Protection (LGEP) has also alerted the public to a sharp rise in criminal activity across multiple areas.

“Crime has escalated drastically. Our undercover informants have revealed disturbing insights. If I shared everything, many would be shocked by how deeply rooted these operations are,” said LGEP owner Clinton Festraets.

Festraets warned that many incidents, including hijackings, break-ins and theft, are the result of leaked information, often on the same day of the crime. “Spotters are being paid between R100 and R1 000 for inside information that enables successful hits.”

Common sources of information leaks include domestic workers, gardeners, contractors, garden services, delivery personnel and others with regular access to homes or neighbourhoods.

LGEP security tips
• Stay alert and vigilant. If something seems suspicious, report it immediately.
• Report unusual activity, especially between 21:00 and 05:00. No one should be walking the streets during those hours without a valid reason. Early reporting allows action before it’s too late.
• Be cautious about who you allow onto your property and what information you share.
• Community involvement is vital. Your eyes and ears on the ground help authorities respond swiftly.

“As we head into the festive season, we expect crime levels to continue rising. Let’s remain vigilant, support one another and stand united against crime in our communities,” Festraets urged.
