Reiger Park SAPS issues urgent warning as missing children cases surge

For any information on missing persons or to report an incident, residents are urged to contact Reiger Park SAPS at 011 916 7000 or the emergency line at 10111.

Reiger Park SAPS has issued a stern warning to parents and guardians to remain vigilant and take extra precautions to safeguard their children.

This comes in response to a concerning rise in the number of missing persons’ cases, particularly involving children, in the area.

Speaking on the matter, Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga emphasised the urgency of the situation.

“We are deeply concerned about the increasing number of cases where children are reported missing. It is critical for parents and guardians to always know their children’s whereabouts and ensure they are not left unattended,” he said.

“The spike in missing persons’ cases has been attributed to several factors, including children wandering away from home unsupervised, instances of neglect and, in some cases, abductions.”

Msimanga pointed out that vigilance and education could play a significant role in addressing the issue.

“Parents should ensure their children are educated about the dangers of speaking to strangers and the importance of staying close to home or in safe environments,” he advised.

To combat this alarming trend, Reiger Park SAPS has intensified patrols in high-risk areas and is working closely with CPF to spread awareness.

“We are planning to organise community meetings to educate residents about child safety measures.”
Msimanga urged residents to report suspicious activity immediately.

“The community is our greatest ally in fighting crime. If you see something, say something. Quick action can make a difference in preventing these incidents,” he said.

Tips for parents:

The SAPS has provided the following tips to help parents protect their children:

• Always ensure children are accompanied by a responsible adult when leaving home.

• Teach children their full name, address, and contact number for emergencies.

• Regularly update your child’s photo and keep recent images readily available.

• Ensure children understand the dangers of speaking to or accepting anything from strangers.

• Report a missing child immediately

Reiger Park SAPS encourages the community to work collaboratively to keep children safe.

“This is not just a police matter but community responsibility. Let’s look out for one another and protect our future generations,” said Msimanga.

For any information on missing persons or to report an incident, residents are urged to contact Reiger Park SAPS at 011 916 7000 or the emergency line on 10111.
