Boksburg garden enthusiasts have a blooming good time for a blooming good cause
Community members enjoyed a variety of beautiful gardens.
A burst of colour and community spirit filled Sunward Park and Parkrand on October 19 as garden and plant lovers flocked to five stunning private gardens in support of cancer survivors.
The Open Gardens event drew about 140 visitors for a day of tranquil beauty, sweet treats, and meaningful giving. The initiative forms part of a fundraising effort to support cancer survivors.
Despite the rainy weather, guests strolled through meticulously manicured gardens, sipped coffee and tea, and enjoyed homemade bakes while taking in the lush greenery and vibrant floral displays.
“I’m crazy about gardens, and it was worth it to come. I enjoyed it a lot and I appreciate all the effort that went into the gardens,” said attendee Erika Britz, while admiring one of the beautiful gardens.

Event organiser Marisa McDonald expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support.
“Old and young came to support the event. It was wonderful to see that young people support community initiatives. People from far and wide made the trip to see these beautiful spaces. I believe people enjoyed the day and went home with something positive. We’re so thankful to everyone who helped make the day a success,” she said.
While the final fundraising total has yet to be confirmed, organisers hope the event will continue to grow in the coming years.
The Open Gardens initiative not only showcased local horticultural talent but also proved that a shared love of nature can sow seeds of hope and community.
