The City of Ekurhuleni says steps are being taken to ensure essential public services remain uninterrupted over the Christmas/New Year period, while some municipal offices (in-person services) pause for the festive season break.

While admin will observe a festive shutdown, crucial functions like waste collection, policing (EMPD), disaster management (DEMS), health services (community healthcare centres and hospitals), emergency lines, and utility support (water and electricity) will continue running.

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini assured residents that dedicated teams will be on standby to attend to maintenances and emergency repairs.

Whilst the closure of municipal offices will not affect essential services, residents are advised to use the following emergency numbers for service delivery interruptions and other urgent issues during the closure.
• Life-threatening emergency line – 011 458 0911 or 10177 or 112 from cellphones.
• Municipal services call centre – 0860 543 000.

Closed
Council offices will be closed on December 16 for the public holiday. These offices will again close from 13:00 on December 24, reopening on January 2, 2026.
During the recess period, residents in need of health care services are encouraged to use community healthcare centres and hospitals, which remain accessible 24/7 every day, including Christmas Day.

Operational healthcare services
Below is a list of the healthcare facilities that will be operational:

South district: Phola Park Community Health Centre, Jabulane Dumane Community Health Centre, Ramokonopi Community Health Centre, Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Tambo Memorial Hospital, Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital.

East district: Daveyton Main Community Day Centre, Kwa-Thema Community Health Centre, Nokuthela Ngwenya Community Health Centre, Phillip Moyo Community Health Centre, and Far East Rand Hospital and Pholosong Hospital.

North district: Esangweni Community Health Centre and Thembisa Hospital.

Residents are also reminded to pay their municipal accounts on time and use the online rates payment platform, Siyakhokha on www.siyakhokha.ekurhuleni.gov.za
