Get to grips with 3D printing at local event this weekend
Visitors can meet fellow hobbyists and entrepreneurs.
DC3D Printers (Makers Hub) invites the local community to join them for a DC3D community get-together at their premises in Bartlett on March 21.
Director of DC3D Henk van der Bank explained DC3D operates out of a mini factory in Boksburg, co-owned by Shawn Pienaar and himself.
“Our mission is simple: 3D printing is more than technology. In some cases, it’s a passionate hobby or a side income for families at local markets and in large, it’s how local makers, businesses, entrepreneurs and students solve real-world problems.
“We’ve seen firsthand how businesses rely on parts printed in hours, not weeks. Product ideas have come to life right here. Schools use 3D printing to bring engineering into their classrooms.
“This ripple effect is powerful. It supports local small business, fosters skills and creates a space where ideas grow into real-world solutions.
“A key philosophy of DC 3D is empowering South African creators, students and businesses. By making technology accessible and providing guidance and to newcomers as well as turning ideas into practical outcomes that build both businesses and a better future.

“When local makers succeed, the entire community benefits. Through providing a save space for creativity and wild ideas to freely come to life, we’ve built a strong network from hobbyists testing their first printers to professionals producing at scale.”
As part of this journey, DC3D is invites the community to a relaxed and engaging day designed to bring together hobbyists, small business owners, families and friends.
The event will feature games, prizes, raffles to win a printer, discounts on filaments and delicious food from local vendors, along with the opportunity to meet and interact with SA Filament, one of South Africa’s local filament manufacturers.
“This gathering is a great opportunity for community members to connect, share ideas and learn from one another.
“Visitors can meet fellow hobbyists and entrepreneurs, hear how others started their small businesses, and discover what inspired many to get involved in the world of 3D printing and making.
“Whether you’re curious about 3D printing, already part of the maker community or simply looking for a fun day out with family and friends, everyone is welcome,” Henk said.
The event is from 09:00 to 17:00 at DC3D Printers (Makers Hub), Airborne Business Park, 11 Taljaard Road, Bartlett.
There is no entry fee.
