Letter to the Editor: Am I a gogo?

“Gogo”, Beyers Park, writes:

I saw a team of female City of Ekurhuleni workers painting road markings on the corner of Southy Street and Main Road one Saturday morning and was so thrilled I shouted out the window ‘thank you, Ekurhuleni!’

The one lady smiled broadly and shouted back ‘Ngiyabonga, gogo!’.

I nearly stalled the car! Gogo? I’m 55 years old.

I was on my way to my niece’s house for a lovely ladies get together and had ‘dolled’ myself up; hair, make-up the works.

When I got there and told the ladies the story they rolled around laughing and my niece said, “Oh, what the hell. Call me what you like, just fix the roads, Ekurhuleni!”

I had to agree. So, gogo it is.

Except, it appears the CoE lady wasn’t the only one. The next week I went to a new optometrist and she asked what work I do or ‘are you retired?’

Bwah, wah! I wish!’

Maybe I need to get to a hairdresser?
