Investigations continue into woman's body found at Witfield Dam

Police say preliminary evidence links the body found at Witfield Dam to a missing woman (57), but her family has called for formal forensic confirmation as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the death.

An investigation is ongoing following the discovery of a woman’s body at Witfield Dam on April 9, in a case believed to be linked to a 57-year-old’s disappearance from her Witfield home on March 10.

Police told the Boksburg Advertiser that prima facie evidence suggests the body may be that of the missing woman.
However, the family has requested that formal forensic processes be completed to conclusively confirm the identity.

Hermina Christina ‘Ina’ Tellis was last seen on March 10.
Her disappearance prompted an extensive search effort after appeals for assistance were issued by her family and Missing Persons South Africa.

According to a flyer circulated on the organisation’s Facebook page, Tellis was last seen leaving her home on foot.
Concern grew as days passed without contact, leading her family to open a missing persons case at the Boksburg North Police Station.

Boksburg North police have clarified that, although a body initially believed to be that of Tellis was discovered during the search, official identification is pending.
Authorities say the initial link to Tellis is based on preliminary findings that align with the description provided to investigators.

Police added that the body showed signs suggesting the woman may have died some time before being found.
She is believed to have sustained a head fracture, and her face was severely disfigured, with indications that the hair had been burnt, possibly with a corrosive substance.

The cause of death remains under investigation.
