Letter to the Editor: Mom loved her job in the motor industry

One of her notable roles was at Nissan in Boksburg, where she worked for many years.

Kim Mare writes:

My mother, Debbie Brown, who was a well-known car sales representative in Benoni and Boksburg for many decades, died on May 9, at age 81.

She started her career in vehicle finance at Trust Bank in Prince’s Avenue, Benoni, in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

After many years as a representative servicing numerous car dealerships, she resigned and began working at a used-car dealership in Ampthill Avenue, Benoni, as a finance representative.

At the time, there was no formal title for the position, but over the years the role evolved into what is now known as a Finance and Insurance (F&I) consultant. With her extensive knowledge of vehicle finance, Debbie was among the pioneers in the field.

After several years in this role, she moved into vehicle sales, spending time at various dealerships in Benoni and Boksburg.

One of her notable roles was at Nissan in Boksburg, where she worked for many years.

When East Rand Mall opened, all the foot traffic and clients moved out of Boksburg CBD and Debbie had to move with the times.

She finally ended up at DO Motors in Rietfontein Road, Boksburg, where she worked for more than two decades until her retirement.

During all these years, my mom met many people while servicing the community. She loved her job and meeting people, and rarely took holidays.

On behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone who knew Debbie for their friendship, kindness and support over the years.

She was blessed to have met you, and her life was richer and fuller having crossed paths with you.

In accordance with her wishes, Debbie will be cremated.

Her family have decided to have a private ceremony for her in Somerset West.

If you are so inclined, please say a little prayer or light a candle, so that we can light the way for her during her final journey.
