Atlasville resident survives armed home invasion, man dies in pub shooting

Police confirmed that three suspects have been arrested following a house robbery and kidnapping incident in Atlasville.

Police in Boksburg North are investigating two serious crime incidents that occurred within days of each other, including a fatal pub shooting and a violent house robbery involving an elderly resident.

According to police information, the incident occurred at about 18:47 on May 23. It is alleged that a male patron was shot by an unknown suspect while inside the pub.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. Terrified patrons reportedly ran helter-skelter after the shot was fired at the establishment.

The pub manager reportedly rushed the injured man to the hospital for treatment, but the victim later succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at about 19:00.

Police stated that no cartridge cases were found at the scene, and investigations are continuing.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public who may have information regarding the incident to contact the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111.
Police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed that a murder case has been opened.

In a separate incident, police confirmed that three suspects have been arrested following a house robbery and kidnapping incident in Atlasville.

The incident reportedly took place at about 17:30 on May 20 at a residence in Gazalia Street, Atlasville, Boksburg North.

According to police, the 88-year-old complainant was sitting on his back porch when he was confronted by two criminals, one armed with a panga and the other with a firearm. The suspects were wearing balaclavas and dark clothing.

The elderly resident was allegedly forced into the house, where the suspects demanded money and safe keys. The complainant was tied up with cable ties while the suspects searched the property.

Among the items stolen were three cellphones, two laptops, watches, knives, cash estimated at about R2 000 and a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

Police said the suspects took the victim’s firearm from the safe but left three rifles behind before fleeing the scene in a Toyota Rumion.

The complainant reportedly managed to free himself at around 20:00 and alerted security officers. No injuries were sustained during the ordeal and no shots were fired.

Police later arrested three suspects in connection with the robbery. All stolen items, including the victim’s firearm, were recovered.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
