Police need help to identify body

Reports indicated that the body of a man was seen in the open tunnel, with 3m high walls.

The community is urged to assist police in identifying the body of a man that was found in a stormwater drain, close to Mokwapane Street and Vivienne Drive, in Daveyton.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the SAPS Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS), officers were deployed to the scene just after 13:00 on July 6.

“Reports indicated that the body of a man was seen in the open tunnel, with 3m high walls,” he said.

“With the use of a Stokes basket, officers recovered the body and carried it to a safe area, where it was winched up to the surface.”

The cause of death is currently under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the victim is urged to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app.
