Delivery rider survives gun attack amid escalating violence in Boksburg
The gun attack on the delivery rider is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have rocked the Boksburg area, where several recent shootings have left residents fearing for their safety.

A delivery motorcycle rider narrowly escaped death after he was shot at by while travelling along Railway Street next to Tambo Memorial Hospital in Plantation on the evening of July 10.
According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, the rider was travelling on his red Big Boy motorcycle when four men suddenly stepped into the road in an apparent attempt to stop him. He managed to swerve past the suspects, who immediately fired several shots in his direction.
The gunfire struck the motorcycle’s tyre and fuel tank, causing the rider to lose control and crash.
Fearing for his life, he fled into nearby bushes to hide before contacting his brother for assistance.
When they later returned to the scene, they discovered that both the motorcycle and the rider’s cellphone had been stolen. The victim sustained injuries to his hands and knees after falling from the motorcycle.

Violence claims more lives
• In a separate and unrelated incident, police discovered the body of an unidentified person lying in the road with a gunshot wound beneath the left arm in the Kanana informal settlement near Main Reef and Wit Deep roads. Paramedics declared the victim dead at the scene.
• The discovery followed another recent shooting in which six armed men allegedly opened fire on three men who were walking home from work. One of the victims, 38-year-old Sadise Ngchongolo, was killed after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
A second victim sustained a serious gunshot wound to the abdomen and remains in critical condition at Tambo Memorial Hospital. The third man managed to escape, although it is not yet known whether he sustained any injuries during the attack.
• The latest attacks come amid a worrying surge in violent crime across the precinct. Between July 1 and July 5, five people were killed in separate murder incidents reported in different parts of the area, including several informal settlements.
Police have opened investigations into all of the incidents, and are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in the investigations to come forward.
