From July 15 to 19, members of the Benoni Flying Squad arrested eight suspects, recovered a hijacked vehicle and seized a large quantity of drugs during separate operations.

• At about 01:00 on July 15, members acting on information recovered an abandoned white Toyota Corolla in Ivory Park Extension 7. The vehicle had been reported hijacked in a Rabie Ridge case.
The vehicle was processed by Sandton forensic personnel before being impounded for further investigation.

• Over the weekend, seven suspects, aged between 19 and 37, were arrested for drug-related offences in separate incidents in Etwatwa and Kempton Park. The arrests were made in Emaphupheni Extension 8, Albertina Section, and along Long, Oak and Casuarina streets in Kempton Park.

During these operations, police recovered two packets of Cat (cocaine), two packets of crystal methamphetamine, seven rocks of cocaine and twelve packets of nyaope (heroin).

• In a further policing operation on July 19, at about 12:00, a 37-year-old man was arrested for alleged drug dealing at a liquor store in Oak Avenue, Kempton Park.

During the arrest, members recovered 50 packets of nyaope (heroin), 20 packets of crystal methamphetamine, four packets of Cat (cocaine), and R200 in cash.
The suspect was detained at Kempton Park SAPS, and the exhibits were booked in.

Investigations are continuing. The suspects are expected to appear in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of possession of and dealing in drugs.
