Police warn motorists after spate of vehicle thefts in Boksburg
Police are investigating the cases and urge motorists to remain alert, and ensure vehicles are secured with additional security measures such as anti-theft devices where possible.
Boksburg police are warning motorists to remain vigilant following a series of vehicle and motorcycle thefts reported from both public and private parking areas across the policing precinct.
Some of the recently reported incidents include:
• A white Toyota Etios was stolen from Pine Street in Plantation on July 31.
According to police, the complainant, a student at EWC, parked her mother’s vehicle outside the college at about 09:10. When she returned at approximately 13:15, the vehicle had disappeared.
• A VW Amarok was stolen from Kingfisher Avenue in Sunward Park on July 29.
The complainant told police he parked the vehicle at about 18:15 before going shopping. When he returned about 20 minutes later, the vehicle was gone. It was later recovered in Vosloorus.
• A Hyundai H100 was stolen from Cason Road on July 29.
The driver reportedly parked the vehicle at about 13:45. When he returned shortly after 14:00, it was no longer where he had left it.
• In another incident, a white 150cc Big Boy motorcycle was stolen from a property in Ekstein Street, Farrar Park, sometime between 20:30 on August 3 and 05:50 on August 4.

The complainant told police he parked the motorcycle in his yard before going to bed. When he woke the following morning, it was gone. It is believed the suspects forced open the gate before stealing the motorcycle.

Boksburg police urge motorists to take the following precautions to reduce the risk of vehicle theft:
• Always lock your vehicle and ensure all windows are fully closed.
• Never leave keys in the ignition or inside the vehicle, even for a short time.
• Avoid leaving valuables such as handbags, laptops, cellphones or wallets in plain sight.
• Park in well-lit, busy areas or secure parking facilities whenever possible.
• Consider fitting your vehicle with a tracking device, alarm system or steering lock.
• When parking at shopping centres, schools or other public places, remain aware of your surroundings.
• Report any suspicious activity or people loitering around parked vehicles to the SAPS or local security providers immediately.
