Bail application in Van Dyk Park murder case stalls
The families of Jessica Rabe and Yudistan Pillay continue to seek answers after the two were found partially buried beneath a house in Van Dyk Park.
The family of Jessica Rabe is calling for justice as two men accused of the murder of the 20-year-old and 25-year-old Yudistan Pillay appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on September 22.
Haroon Rashid Adam (27) and Hendrick Swart (27) made a brief appearance after Adam’s legal representative informed the court that he was unwell before the bail application could proceed.
Both accused remain in custody, with a formal bail application for Adam expected to be heard on Friday, September 25.
Van Dyk Park community member George Mouton expressed frustration over the delays surrounding the case.
“There is an excuse at every appearance that has been made with this case. If the lawyer can make it to court, surely he is fit enough to proceed with the case,” said Mouton.
“We will not give up until justice is served.”
Mouton said the families and community members remained committed to supporting the case and ensuring that the victims were not forgotten.
He added that greater community awareness of the court proceedings could help encourage more people to attend and show their support.
The Rabe and Pillay were reported missing at Dawn Park Police Station on July 27 after their families became concerned when they could no longer reach them.
Their disappearance prompted an extensive search involving relatives, community members and investigators.
According to Wendy Pascoe of Pascoe Investigations and Missing in Southern Africa, who assisted the families, the search intensified after information emerged that Rabe had allegedly been assaulted and that her cellphone had been stolen.
The incident reportedly disrupted contact with the pair and raised concerns about their whereabouts.
Their disappearance prompted missing-person posters to be circulated through the Van Dyk Park Community Patrollers Initiative, Boksburg 911 and various community WhatsApp groups.
On August 28, information about their possible whereabouts was handed to police, leading to a search and recovery operation at a property in Wildevy Crescent.
SAPS Search and Rescue members and the Forensic Pathology Unit were deployed to the property.
Shortly after 18:00 on August 30, the bodies of both victims were recovered after they were found partially buried beneath the house.
Their next of kin confirmed their identities.
