Hockey boys make Van Dyk Primary School proud
The school congratulated the boys on their achievements.
Van Dyk Primary School U13 boys’ team made history this season by becoming the first boys team from the school to qualify for the Eastern Gauteng playoffs – a remarkable achievement that has filled the school with pride.
It was a nail-biting and hard-fought season, with the young athletes demonstrating grit, skill, and perseverance.
The semi-final clash against Kruinsig, held on 17 September, ended in a tense 0-0 draw at full time. A penalty shoot-out followed, with both teams netting one goal each in the initial round of five shots. The match was eventually decided in sudden death, with Kruinsig edging out Van Dyk 2-1.
Despite the loss, the Van Dyk boys showed resilience by stepping onto the field again on September 22 to contest the third-place playoff against Curro Serengeti.
Again, regular time had a 0-0 stalemate. The penalty shoot-out ended in a 2-2 draw, pushing the match into another sudden-death decider. Curro Serengeti managed to secure the win, with the final result 3-2 in their favour.
With this result, Van Dyk Primary finished fourth in the Eastern Gauteng U13 boys’ hockey league – a historic and commendable performance for a team that had never reached this stage before.
