What is your view on trains not running any longer?
Freddy January: I used to save on travelling fare until the trains stopped. Train trips were enjoyable and affordable. Now we are paying a lot for taxis. PRASA must restore the infrastructure and bring back the trains.Nthiso Maluleka: I attend school in Boksburg. We used to arrive on time when the trains were still functional, Now you have to wait in long queues to get a taxi. My friend just called me and said she won’t be in time for her exam because she is still in a long queue for the taxi in Daveyton.Thabo Thobela: I relied on the train to travel around Gauteng. Now I struggle at lot. I use a taxi and the fare is expensive. The trains were reliable and convenient.John Strauss: Non-functioning trains are affecting our company here in Boksburg. Most of our workers live in Thembisa and travelled by train. The fare was affordable. Now they have to use a company vehicle and fuel costs are expensive. They loved using a train because they didn’t have to spend a lot.Bzeke Skhosana: I used trains to travel as far as Krugersdorp and it was affordable. I believe the people in power don’t care about us. PRASA was supposed to protect its infrastructure from vandals. I hope they will bring back the trains because they were affordable.
