Boksburg residents adapt to soaring fuel and electricity costs

The recent increase in petrol and electricity prices has significantly impacted residents and motorists. However, many are finding ways to cope by implementing energy-saving measures in their homes.

Residents were recently hit with an electricity price hike, causing them to tighten their belts and search for ways to save.

The Boksburg Advertiser spoke to several locals to learn how they are coping with the increase and what measures they are taking to cut costs.
Here is what they had to say:

Cinderella Nkosi: It is killing me, honestly. I can not stand these unforeseen increases. I usually switch off my appliances and I’ve noticed a significant decrease in my electricity bill.
Lucia Mathole: It is not easy with these constant increases. I currently use my gas stove and LED lights to make ends meet.
Marius Botha: I cannot stand the increases because they are very expensive. I have opted to switch my geysers off from time to time.
Verona January: Load-shedding is already a form of energy-saving. To protect my appliances, I have turned to using a gas bottle as an alternative source of energy. Although the gas bottle helps me save on electricity, it is expensive and finishes quickly due to the frequent load-shedding.
Mathilda Mashego: These increases are frustrating. To save on electricity I turn to energy-saving measures such as using energy-efficient light bulbs and turning off appliances when not in use.
