Hoarding is a bad habit, but in cleaning out I found an old copy of the Boksburg Advertiser dated September 2, 2016.
The big headline on page three was the recent election of Mzwandile Masina as the new mayor.
So, in his inaugural speech out trotted all the regular ANC promises/commitments (keep the cadres happy):
• The usual vague, improved service delivery and upscaling services to informal settlements.
• Invest in water infrastructure. Has Ekurhuleni still got the Blue Drop Award? What’s happening with the Russell Road Reservoir?
• Fighting fraud and corruption in the supply chain system.
• The piloting of 24-hour clinic services.
• Creating more opportunities for the youth.
• Introducing an annual mega arts and cultural festival.
• The pie-in-the-sky one that sounds great – kick-starting the process of establishing a power station backed by renewable energy.
We can say with certainty that none of the above has been achieved in eight long years. In fact, we know that Ekurhuleni as a whole has deteriorated.
Besides none of the above taking place, we now have to deal with potholed roads (and sinkholes), non-working street lights and numerous non-working traffic lights, especially on major roads.
The parks department cuts the grass alongside the roads and doesn’t even collect the grass – what a mess!
Our rates increase every year and the services decrease. Where does all our money go? Oh yes, fraud and corruption.
Mr mayor, here’s a recommendation from your paying customers – we want an Elon Musk clone to drill down and slash all the waste, fraud and moronic, highly paid cadres.
