Citizens braced themselves for the steep rise in fuel prices on April 1.

What do you think about this hike?

The fuel increased as of April 1:
Petrol 93 up by R3.06 per litre
Petrol 95 up by R3.06 per litre
Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) up by R7.37 per litre
Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) up by R7.51 per litre
Illuminating paraffin (wholesale) up by R15.60 per litre
LPGAS (Gauteng) up by R1.08 per kg.

Luyanda Thabiso Mzobe: One thing for sure is that the petrol prices will remain high as long as the Middle East conflict continues. It will also cause an increase in commuting costs and food. It will definitely take a toll.
Slindile Buhle Khoza
The recent petrol price increase will place a huge strain on my budget, as my commuting costs are expected to rise. I am concerned about the taxi fare adjustments.
Kumbirai Chiwara: I feel like it is going to be way harder than it already is because as fuel goes up, food does too, which causes more difficulty.
Noluvo Mabuza: It’s tough. As a young grad, I’m already juggling a lot just to get a foot in the door, and then prices start rising. It’s like running on a treadmill that just keeps speeding up. The frustrating thing is, it’s not just about the petrol prices, it’s the flow-on effect because taxi fares will be going up too.
Chantelle Van der Merwe: We need to accept and adapt to the upcoming hike. It will be hard to budget and to stretch salaries, but there is nothing we can do.
