Following the out-of-touch footsteps of national government, the Ekurhuleni metro decision-making cadres haven’t yet grasped that no matter what or where they “allocate” the cleansing levy, it’s the overall 15 per cent increase in the waste removal cost that is the real problem.
It would be a wonderful move if the latter informed us in which years (in the distant past) the annual “tax” increases were less than the inflation rate.
Their incompetence and gross mismanagement of our compulsory “inputs” merely mean that these increases will continue to be above inflation going forward.
That is until we get rid of them.
The twisting umbilical cord stretches from top through the myriad unnecessary and bloated national government departments to local government.
So whatever happens at senior levels are merely copied at the local level.
No amount of sugar-coated speeches about “achievements” will alter the fact that we are not receiving efficient and cost- effective delivery.
If there were a choice in the market place the majority of us would “switch”.
On top of paying and not receiving reciprocal reasonable service, we have to contend with plenty of leakage through fraud and massive corruption.
Oh yes, don’t forget the expensive parties and entertainment.
