Sunward Park bow out of Future Champions

Following a disappointing loss and a draw from their first two games in the 2014 Future Champions Gauteng International Tournament, Sunward Park was bowed out of Group C with one game remaining.

Having squandered a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 against defending champions Club Tijuana of Mexico on the opening day of the tournament on Monday, March 24, Thabo Senong’s men went on to claim a two-all stalemate with Qatar’s Aspire Academy.

“Our boys played very well,” said coach Senong.

“Our major problem was converting our chances. Remember, we brought an u-16 side to an u-17 tournament, but I don’t want to make any excuses.

“Our main goal was to expose the boys to international football and we’ve achieved it. Our long-term goal is to produce future Premier Soccer League and Bafana Bafana stars,” he concluded.

Sunward Park was the only schools team which competed in the tournament.
