‘Tommy Gun’ delighted with Grachev win

Newly-crowned WBC international champion Thomas ‘Tommy Gun’ Oosthuizen, expressed his contentment following his light-heavyweight debut victory over Russia’s Denis Grachev at Emperors Palace on Saturday, November 15.

Oosthuizen (26), who was making his return to the ring in almost a year, claimed the win via technical knockout after Grachev’s trainer, former world champion Chris Byrd informed the referee in the fight’s penultimate round that his fighter could not carry on.

Asked what he made of his win in the 12-round fight in a ring-side interview, Oosthuizen said: “I’m feeling good, I wanted to stop him from the start, but he’s a tough fighter.

“I have a lot of respect for Denis; he came in the fight in great shape and he was a good opponent.”

The win improved the former IBO super-middleweight champion’s record to 24-0-2, including 13 knock-outs, while Grachev (32) dropped to 13-5-1 with eight knock-outs. – @SabeloBoksburg
