A dream come true for mixed martial arts local fighter

Details about his debut are still unclear.

Van Dyk Park MMA fighter Robert ‘9mm’ Swanepoel has signed with Africa’s mega MMA organisation EFC.

The welterweight, who’s been carved from the Pitbull Dojo Boksburg gym, has signed a six-fight deal.

“This is a dream come true as I had a rough few years and survived a massive car crash last year,” he said.

“I’m seeing this as a chance and a great opportunity which I’m thankful for. I would like to thank Graeme Cartmell for signing me.”

Swanepoel, who grew up in Boksburg, had the following to say about MMA: “It’s a way of living, something I do as part of my everyday life as it takes so much discipline and devotion. It’s the ultimate test of my mental and physical strengths and it makes me a better person inside and outside the hexagon.”

Quizzed on his plan going into EFC, the man fondly known as 9mm explained: “I’ll be taking it one fight at a time and keep on training to get better and stronger.

“I can only thank my coach Marthinus du Plessis for believing that I’m good enough for him to approach EFC.”
