Botes replaces Matthee as Owls chairman

The club will start off with its first friendly matches scheduled for later in February.

Former TW Boksburg Rugby Club assistant coach Willem Botes is the new chairman of the club following the departure of Danie Matthee, who served as chairperson from 2015.

Matthee has joined the legal department of the Valke Rugby Union.

Botes’ new position comes amidst exciting times for the Owls, who will be participating in the all-new Volcano League, a joint Blue Bulls and Valke Rugby Union competition.

But the Prince George Park club will stay involved in the Valke Peregrine League.

It’s gearing up to being a season that will test the club on all fronts, from mental to physical fitness.

Speaking ahead of the season at the club’s clubhouse, the new chairperson enthused: “We are going to play against other teams, which make the league more competitive, and will also place more challenges to our sponsors because the league is now longer, with more games to play.

“On that point, I want to thank our sponsors TW-Profile, Adcock Ingram and Ebutsi because without their contributions we wouldn’t be able to participate.”

Botes called on the club’s 16th man to play their part in what promises to be a challenging campaign.

“I ask the public of Boksburg to come and support their local team during this competition, especially our home games. Bring the whole family.

“As we strive to make club rugby at Boksburg a family matter, come and enjoy our excellent venue and try our pub and restaurant.

“At our club we work hard to get everybody involved, from our junior rugby to the seniors, as well as cricket and soccer. We are a family in this regard.

“We see 2019 as the year that we as a committee want to place Boksburg rugby properly on the map and be competitive towards the visiting teams.

“Our aim is to do well with all our teams. Our coaches are committed and remain the same as the previous season, with a couple of new additions to assist.”
