Boksburg Aquatic Saints Swimming Club star Kian Keylock has again been invited to participate in a Swimming South Africa (SSA) High-Performance Olympic relay training camp time trial to take place in Stellenbosch from February 13 to 20.
According to SSA, the purpose of the camp is to try and qualify relay teams for Tokyo 2021.
Keylock, just like at similar training camp which took place in Nelspruit, was selected to swim the 4x100m individual medley relay.
He was selected because he holds the fastest time for the 100m breaststroke in the country. Fellow member at the Boksburg Saints Jaiden Staines, who is also scheduled to travel to the Western Cape, holds the second fastest time for the discipline.
The camp will offer Keylock, Staines and many more upcoming swimming stars the opportunity to share the pool with the country’s elite swimmers – which in most cases helps swimmers swim faster times than they normally would do in normal galas.
Quizzed about the camp and what he looks forward to the most in swimming at the Mother City, Keylock commented: “Honestly, I’m just looking forward to the experience, so many people say it’s the best pool in our country and I have never ever raced in it and now I get to go there for a week and not only race in it but train in it as well. To me it’s a privilege.”
In Nelspruit, the Saint picked up two golds and one silver in the 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 50m breaststroke respectively.
Although he was uncertain which individual disciplines he will be swimming in in Cape Town, to better his outing in Mpumalanga will sure help with added motivation at Western Cape.
