Boksburg Cricket Club (BCC) Premier League captain Adam Forbes has signed for Hadleigh & Thundersley Cricket Club, based in England.
The news, which will arrive as a shock to many, ends Forbes’ near two-decade stay with the Prince George Park outfit, which he joined as a boy in 2005.
Hadleigh & Thundersley competes in the top division of the Essex League and the all-rounder, 23, will be based in Hadleigh in Essex.
Forbes, who assumed the captaincy in Boksburg in 2017, flew out to the UK on March 27 and had already begun his 11-day quarantine period in an English hotel during a phone interview with the Advertiser on March 30.

Commenting on his move, he said: “It’s a mixture of emotions; it’s exciting to face a new challenge but sad to leave my girlfriend, friends and family behind.
“BCC will always have a spot in my heart, my cricketing days started there and I felt privileged to play with players that have been there for over 20 years. I’m privileged to have held the captaincy role during our growing stage and then when we succeeded so well over the last two years,” added Forbes, who’s the son of BCC chairperson, Bruce.
“It’s a sad goodbye, but I know that I have left the boys in a good space and that they will keep me proud and keep the badge proud.”
How the move happened
According to Forbes, the move was finalised earlier this year when he also signed on the dotted line for the UK club.
Commenting on how the transfer materialised, he added: “I always had my stats out there. I was approached by an agent who had used them in the UK and clubs were interested; from there I just decided that it’s a great opportunity for me and will help me in the long run with Irish cricket aspirations.”
The former Boksburg frontman, who’s a graduate of the University of Pretoria, will also be taking his studies further at one of the UK’s top-independent institutes, Canford School.
