Impala Park fitness athlete JJ Brits was crowned champion during the Puma Classic held in Nelspruit on April 24.
Brits competed in the classic bodybuilding under 1.77m (height) division. The meeting, which welcomed more than 100 athletes, was an IBFF sanctioned event.
“Nine incredible athletes stood alongside me, vying for the title,” explained the 30-year-old.
“Athletes travelled from all over the country to compete as it was the first time Nelspruit hosted a bodybuilding contest. So it was quite an impressive event as spectators were allowed,” he elaborated before touching on his second gold medal in as many tries.
“Achieving first place for a second time is an indescribable feeling. Nothing is stopping me now. Bringing back first place to my hometown is something special. It’s always more rewarding when you know you’ve put in all the work.
“Enjoying muscle definition, symmetry and muscle maturity was something the judges were looking for. The comments from the judges were that I had the full package and they want to send me abroad.
“I want to thank all the support from family and friends. Good luck messages came streaming in when we left early morning on Saturday. I want to thank my sponsor Grounded Fitness for always doing their part.”
He is scheduled to compete again in September where he will be attempting to gain his pro card.
