Badminton tournament ends with renaming of court

Delyse Allen was honoured for her dedication to the sport.

The Badminton South African Open Series Tournament, hosted by Eastern Gauteng Badminton Association, was held at the John Barrable Hall, Benoni, on May 22 and 23.

The Eastern Gauteng Badminton (EGB) team celebrated some good performances.

EGB’s home ground is at John Barrable, where they do their training under the auspices of Stewart Carson, senior national coach.

The winners were as follows:

• Amy Ackerman – ladies singles
• Michelle Butler-Emmett and Jason Mann – mixed doubles
• Michelle Butler-Emmett and Amy Ackerman – ladies doubles
• Jason Mann and Jarred Elliott – men’s doubles

Delyse Allen, national badminton coach, was honored on the day for many years of dedication to badminton both in Benoni and South Africa.

The centre court at John Barrable was named after her.
