Javelin star to represent South Africa
The star javelin thrower said his personal best is 72.74m,
Boksburg South in-form javelin thrower Armant van der Linden has been selected to represent South Africa at the 2021 World Athletics u-20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya, from August 17 to 22.
The Hoërskool Garsfontein matriculant said he threw over 72m to earn a spot at the championships.
“The qualifying distance is 69.70m. I threw over the 70m mark at the South African championships in Paarl on April 10, where I was also crowned the u-20 South African javelin champion,” he explained.
The athlete said he can’t wait to jet off to Kenia to compete in the championships.
“I’m extremely excited. I feel good about my form, and I’m confident I’m ready. I have been working around the clock to prepare for the championships,” the multiple gold medallist said.
On what it takes to be SA champ, he previously said: “Hard work, nothing else, just hard work. You don’t have to be the strongest or the fastest, just hard work. It’s just perfecting the technique.”
