Help Villa Liza polish its rough diamonds
Organisers said promoting sporting activities in their townshi may help to keep youth occupied and away from risky behaviour.
The youth of Villa Liza is appealing to local organisations and individuals to support their initiative aimed at giving youngsters the opportunity to polish their talents in sports and arts.
According to residents, the township had been starved of sport resources for many years. Despite that, a group of community members has recently made it its mission to teach young people life skills through sport.
The community has organised major sporting activities to help polish the rough diamond in Villa Liza and surrounding communities, to produce superstars and legends who will consequently fly the City’s flag.
Organisers said promoting sporting activities is of fundamental importance to produce stars, keep youth occupied and away from risky behaviour, such as delinquency, exposure to drugs and other social ills.
“It’s heart-breaking to see talent fading away right before our eyes, as more young blood give up pursuing sports and start partaking in crime and substance abuse. Now is the best time to try turn the page and write a new narrative,” said Thapelo Mosese, one of the organisers.
Upcoming sporting activities
The township will over the upcoming long weekend (September 24 to 26) host a netball and football tournament, where they will also have talent shows in between the games to allow youngsters to showcase their art skills.
“We hope this initiative will help open other doors, restore hope and shine light on these rough diamonds,” said Mosese.
