BAC hosts AGM
The club is thankful to its sponsors and those who contributed to the successful year.
The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) reflected on 2021/22 during its recent 47th AGM at the Boksburg Stadium.
In his report, BAC chairperson Richard Montjoie said they are grateful that the race calendar opened up this year and things got back to a semblance of normality.
“Following on the AGM last year, Covid restrictions started to lift and we could get back to our regular calendar, although this was somewhat disrupted and jumbled up by uncertainty on whether races were going ahead or not, and Comrades being held in August. Steve’s Mile Challenge was hugely successful and was well attended with some phenomenal athletes coming through from a variety of areas. Covid put a damper on our popular Christmas Pub Run. This didn’t stop us from holding the Christmas Time Trial.”
He highlighted Steve de Bod remains such a stalwart, selflessly hosting and coaching the immensely popular Tuesday Track Sessions
Furthermore, he highlighted 2022 saw a massive escalation in race fees, and on this basis, the committee attempted to host more training runs for the club.
“February saw us host the 5000m track session at the stadium. On the cross-country side, we hosted the CGA cross-country league on June 4, and again, thanks to the organising skills of our incredible club secretary Caronn Harris, Frank and everyone else who assisted. We had a hugely successful Jimmy Perkins this year, with over 80 runners attending, and this event served as a great training run for Comrades.”
Montjoie expressed his gratitude to everybody for their hard and to the club’s sponsors, Rogers Krugers Attorneys, Atbro Systems and Lopec Auto Spares for the wonderful handouts.
“On our club’s races, Colgate went ahead really well, and once again a big thank you to our sponsor Colgate who has been so unbelievably supportive of the club. Colgate is such an important event on the club’s calendar, and we cherish the Colgate sponsorship.
“The club took a massive financial knock on Tommy Malone in 2019, and we simply were not ready to host Tommy Malone this year, and thus decided to rather get our ducks in a row and get everything properly organised for 2023.”
